I have noticed that many egyptians were afraid of scoprpions, they had amulets that proteceted them from them. So was there really a scoprion king and if so was a myth or what? i also read that there was a scorpion goddess. does anyone know any information on this? thanks,
Ashley

Maybe there is no real scorpionm king. It is probable that it was a goddess though.

I think that there was a first-dynasty Pharaoh who was named Scorpion but also had another name that was used more often. I think it was Narmer, actually. Sorry, I don't have my book handy, I'll look it up and tell you later, though.

I dunno bout you, but I think it had to be a goddess. Who would want the name of a deadly insect?

But if it were a goddess, it wouldn't be Scorpion KING. Maybe whoever had that name used it because it made people scared of him. Or, maybe he wasn't very nice and that was his nickname.

I bet the Mummy just made that up, like they normally do, just because it sounds cool.

Ok I can clear this one up. firstly, there was a king whom we refer to as 'Scorpian'. We get the name from the so called corpian macehead which shows a pharaoh wearing the white crown with the sign for Scorpian next to him. He was not first dynasty but pre or early dynastic. He was the basis for the guy in the film with the most delicious mummy ever. A tomb has been found at Abydos I think which some are attributing to him but its doubtful.

On the second issu, there was a scorpian goddess. Her name was Selket. She was one of the four godesses who protected the corners of sarcophagai.

And In my book it says that the dynasty he ruled in was "Dynasty 0," which was from 3000-3100 B.C.E. There isn't the exact dates for his ruling, sorry.
