I saw the King Tut exhibit when it was in New Orleans in 1975 (I believe). I know I was in 7th grade. I was wondering, what exactly is King Tut's sarcophagus holding. A staff? and ?

:D

I know what you mean! His sarcophagus looks intriguing. I mean, how often do you see a coffin made of gold? But to answer your question, it did not have a staff. Instead, it has one of the world’s most precious art pieces—king tut’s death mask.

Tell me, did you see the new king tut exhibit by National Geographic?

Do you mean what is he holding in his hands?

His golden body-shaped coffin was wrapped in the wings of the goddess, his arms were crossed over his chest, and he held the so-called "crook and flail",
thought to be a fly whisk and a shepard's stick, or crook.
There was no staff.

I have also heard that the flail is a device for collecting resin from plants. I do not know what plant or exactly how it worked - but a crook & flail could symbolise the 2 aspects of farming - livstock & arable.
