An 'avatar' is the image that appears below your username on the left hand side of the screen when you make a post.
If you want one of these it is highly advisable that they are not offensive to others and that they fall within the guidelines of this site.
This means that the image must be of the correct size, which is a width and a height of no more than 80 pixels, and a file size of no more than 64kb.
How do I find one?
Most people use an image search engine, such as
http://images.google.com to find an image that they would like to use. If the image you want is copyright you may like to ask permission to use it first, and most people will say yes if you ask them politely enough.
When you have the image you want you need to make sure it is the right size as mentioned above.
How do I put it up?
In order for it to be seen by others the image needs to be located on the internet, which means you will need to have some webspace where the image can be located.
When the image is online, copy the url for where it is located. A URL is the web address that starts with
http://. To find out the url of your image rightclick on the picture and go to 'properties' - it will show you the URL address there and you can copy this.
When you have the URL you need to go to your 'profile' page by following the link at the top of this forum (you must be logged in) or clicking .
At the bottom of your profile page you have the option to include the URL for your avatar where it says "Link to off-site Avatar". Put in the URL that you copied earlier and press the 'submit' button.
If everything went well, you should have a nice new avatar.
