Hi, hello. I wonder if I can get something deciphered. Not knowing what it means, I can't be positive on it's content, so I hope you'll bare with me if it's... objectional material.

The handwriting reminds me immediately of the papyrus of Ani- the most common version of the BOTD- but the use of the unusual glyph in the name 'Osiris' suggests that it might have been produced in a completely different era. I'm confused already. Let's go through it bit by bit, and hopefully I'll get something right:

The first word is 'iw', which is just for for verbal stress on the concept of something 'being' somewhere/something. That means we need to look for both a subject and some sort of pronoun- in this case 'em' which means usually something along the lines of 'with' 'in' or 'at'. It should become clear soon enough. Hopefully. Now the word below starts with a rather uncommon hieroglyph that I'm struggling to identify. I think it's the 'n' staff that appears in the words for 'homage to you' and 'strength' or it might be a weird representation of 'hr'. I'm sure it's something obvious though. I've seen it before somewhere. Next to it's just a line- which could quite literally be standing in for a whole host of other glyphs- so I'll just leave it out. And that means I've been utterly unhelpful. Oh dear.

Anyway. Later on Osiris is mentioned, and someone is 'true of voice'- but where the name should be we just get "Ii". I've been defeated. I'm sorry. In denfense of myself- passages like that one from texts such as the book of the dead really are the hardest to translate well, as they have lots of incredibly obscure vocab.

I'd have to agree with Psusennes I that this is quite a confusing and maddening text. There are several glyphs there that don't even seem familiar to me.

I know what you mean, Psusennes I: you get started and think you have something, and then you stall. For instance, there's that unusual sceptor near the bottom of the first column and a variant near the top of the second--could that be a variation of the hdj mace?

I'd have to echo Psusennes I here and inquire as to where this text comes from. It seems quite odd to me. Many of the glyphs do look very loose and cursive as is seen in most Books of the Dead (a kind of cross between hieroglyphs and hieratic), but, again, there are some I don't even recognize and could not definitively locate in the hieroglyph books in my library.

Papyrus of Ani, Chapter 151.

Speech for the Presentation of a Flame:

I am your protection of this fire, I drive him away from the valley, I drive it, namely the sand from your two feet. For I am the one who drags the sand in order to stop up the hidden place. I ward off the arm of the one who would oppose himself against the flame of the desert. I have set fire to the desert, I have deflected the path, for I am the protection.

CJPharaoh,
Did you remove the image. I can't get it. I just get the Photobucket site.

Hi!
I want to make a necklace made of wire for my friend with a hieroglyph sign meaning "friend, friendship, true friends, friends always" or something like that. Does there exist any hieroglyph with similar meaning?
I would like the pendant to look like [url=http://justblingit.net/images/jbiriRIS073397heartbarbwire.jpg]this[\url], so the sign shouldn't be very complicated.

Thanks!
