There is a glyph that is shown in many cases in the hieroglyphs, I do not know what it is called but I am trying to learn what the overall opinion is as to it's meaning.

As best as I can describe it is a stick with tassels? coming from it.
I have seen if often in a Pharaohs’ hand and in another case coming from the Hawks back.

Two examples can be seen here. Apparently I do not have permission to post links or photo's I am guessing so I can't very well show examples.

Is it some symbol of authority, power, status etc...?

Look for “flagellum Egyptian”; you will get some information but not much is actually known about its exact meaning.

The flagellum was possibly used for collecting resin from bushes.
