Hi!
I have this assignment on the role of the queen, in New Kingdom Egypt, it's suppose to be mainly looking at artefacts in Tutankhamun's tomb... I was mainly looking at these gold shrines in the antechamber which has pictures of the private life of the King and Queen on it.

I was just wondering if anyone had any particular thoughts or opinions on what the role of the queen was, or maybe any websites or books they can recommend i look at?

Well, I'm no expert, but you may be able to learn a lot about the Queen's roles by studying about Nefertiti and Tye. There's a really good book called "Nefertiti-Egypts Sun Queen" by Joyce Tyldesley. (I believe that's how you spell it). She also wrote a book about Hatchepsut, but that may not help much.

Yes me too although I have watched about everything the History channel has to ofer. It doesn't tell me anything now that I don't already know. Fun to chat with other like-minded people though.

Yes, I have seen a few Egyptian shows on those channels, but I don't have cable, so I don't get them, I see them when I go to my friend's houses. I also like the new National Geographic channel.

Did you see the recent show when they opened Gatenbrink's door? I must admit I was quite disapointed. Had been hoping for more.

Gatenbrinks door? Is that the one in the Pyramid? I was dissapointed with the show about the opening of the secret shaft. I think they spent too much time explaining and talking. And it seemed like they kept talking about teh same thing over and over again. It actually got rather irratating when they kept saying the asme thing after each commercial break.

Yes THANKYOU! Exactly what I thought. Apart from the last five minutes, nothing about the show related to the secret shaft. Yes Gatenbrink's door was that 'door' they drill through on the show although I don't know why it was ever called a door. It's tiny!
They didn't refer to it a Gatenbrink's door on the show but that's what it was, named after the scientist who first discovered it years ago. Can't remember the exact date but it's in one of my books. Once again I will check this weekend and find out.
It's caused a lot of controversy in egyptology circles. There have been plans to open it for years on live tv but they kept getting put off and put back and people were beginning to think there was some great conspiracy regarding the door.
Now we'll have to wait for another lifetime before they get round to drilling through the next 'door' that Mr Hawass has spotted.

Yes, it will take forever for them to open the next one. I read a news article the other day and it said that the other shaft in the queen's chamber was explored off-cameras and they found a door just like the one in the other shaft. Has anyone else heard about this?

Oh, and wasn't it true that Dr. Hawass was the person who kept stopping people from opening the door in the first place?

Ah right the discovery channel. Someone told me Channel 5. I have just started a part time egyptology course and the instuctor says that apparently all it includes are 'NEW' theories, that Tutankhamun was murdered. Well we all new that anyway didn't we. We might not be able to proove it but its fairly dam obvious.

There's supposed to be a show about Egypt on tuesday on PBS. I dunno what the subject is, though.

For those of you in the UK, the show on 'who murdered ttut' is on, damm, it's one day this week on channel 5 in the evening. I think it's the ninth but check anyway.

Those not in the uk well there's an Egypt week starting next week I believe but I don't know how much the programming differs in different countries.
