I just came across this site, which I enjoyed very much. Well I was wondering if anyone likes King Tut as much as I do? I can remember being in elementary school and being so fascinated by Ancient Egypt. It was not till I hit middle school did we learn about him. Till this day I am hooked to Ancient Egypt.

I gotta say I belive king tut is only famous cos of how he was descovered. I think Ramasees 2nd is the one to be admired cos of how great he made egypt.

Actually, I think that Akhenaten should be the greatest Pharaoh. Have you ever realized how brave you would have to be to do that much to change everybody's veiwpoints on religion and art? Yes, Ramses II DID build lots of minuments and stuff, but he was a lair. He changed the account of what happened at the battle of Kadesh. He didn;t win the war, he forged a peace alliance with the king of the Hittites. Would you admire someone who lies to his people?

I never thought about that point of view ! Also I think though you can't compare both pharaohs. Akhenaten was seeking spiritual truth while Ramses the Great was seeking growth and power for his kingdom. Although Akhenaten remains one of my fav. pharaohs--especially the Amarna Period.

Hey, while I'm on here, does anyone happen to know the dimensions of the coffins of Pharaoh Tutankhamen and the cedar coffin of Ramses II, or where I can find out?

I will not go into depth, however I will take quote
from the preface.

Yeah, that is the best book about Akhenaten that I have ever read. I was just thinking about the art style. I remember that last year or something there was a TV special that said that if you put the statues of Akhenaten at their original height, they would look pretty normal. Oh, and, since Queen Tye, Akhenaten's mother, was Nubian, than Akhenaten would have had darker skin, right? I think that in his sculpture he looks more like what a Nubian person would have looked like. Maybe that's why people think the art style was wierd. They could have been thinking in terms of what other Egyptians looked like.

Whatever, that doesn't make much sense, maybe someone will understand it.

well I want to say something, Ramses II wasnt a liar, beside the peace contract he did was a great thing and is known as the first peace convention ever, and nobody can denie that the king Ramses II was a great pharo. For Akhenaton he was a great king for the phylosophy he had and no need to say that he was a very powerfull king for he had succeded to change the religion of his time.
As for king Tut, well he is famous of course for his tomb, it is not known that he did a great act at his time.
But this let us wonder, if king Tut wasnt a very great king how could be the tombs of Ramses II or Akhenaton if they had stayed untouched!!!!! :wink: :wink:

Well, wouldn't changing an account of what really happened be lying? If Ramses II was a great Pharaoh, which he was, building all those monuments, his people would have loved him. Would they have changed their viewpoints if he had lost just one battle? He must have been very arrogant if he changed the story so much as to say that he was alone with the Hittite army, his own military force having abandoned him, and then saying that he won.

can anyone here tell me what you had to do to be pharaoh???(big report due)

In order to be Pharaoh you had to be the firstborn son of the Pharaoh's cheif queen. If she didn't have a son, it would go to the first born son of one of his other wives. If there was no heir to the throne, but there was a princess by the Chief queen, you could become Pharaoh by marrying one of these daughters, known as Solar Princesses. If there wasn't a princess to marry, than it owuld go to the brother of Pharaoh or one of his other relatives (Such as in the case of Aye, who ruled after Tutankhamen. He was the brother of Queen tye and father of Nefertiti, and so was in the royal line and could be a Pharaoh). If there were no other relatives, than a new dynasty began. I don't know how they picked the Pharaoh then.
